Corrosion Resistance
Alloy 59 is a high-nickel alloy product developed by VDM in Germany. Originally known as Nicrofer 5923 hMo, it is now generally referred to as VDM® Alloy 59 or simply alloy 59. With an extremely low carbon and silicon content, the alloy resists grain boundary precipitation, making it highly suitable for hot forming and welding applications. Thanks to its balanced composition—rich in nickel, chromium, and molybdenum—Alloy 59 offers exceptional resistance to both oxidizing and reducing chemical environments. It also provides enhanced protection against chloride-induced corrosion, making it ideal for demanding corrosive conditions. Alloy 59 demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance to a range of inorganic acids, including nitric, phosphoric, sulfuric, and hydrochloric acids. It performs particularly well in mixed acid environments, such as combinations of sulfuric and hydrochloric acid, where many other materials fail. -
Applications
Washers, heat exchangers, baffles, ventilators, and agitators for flue gas desulfurization (FGD) in ships and thermal power plants, industries involving plant and waste incineration, SO2 gaskets for marine diesel engines, components for seawater and concentrated brine, equipment and parts for geothermal energy and acidic gas applications, reactors for acetic acid and acetic anhydride, sulfuric acid coolers. -
Matching Welding Materials
AWS A5.14 ERNiCrMo-13 wire and AWS A5.11 ENiCrMo-13 rod are recommended. -
